NEW REVIEWS! September 2012 Update
The great thing about Books is you never have time to be bored! I am constantly bemoaning the favorite saying of all Readers out there: "So many books, so little time!"
This month we start off with a Contemporary Romance by Rochelle Alers: ANGEL'S LANDING, Aug. 2012, Grand Central Publishing, ISBN: 978-1-455-501380. LOVED this book! It was one of those "feel-good" reads that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys memorable characters, family intrigue, and romantic suspense. Kara Newell suddenly inherits a large estate off the coast of South Carolina and leaves behind her unfulfilled life in the big city to meet the family she never knew she had. But things aren't as idyllic as she thought it might be and not everyone wants her there, including some very angry family members and locals. Like a knight in shining armor, sheriff Jeffrey Hamilton comes to her rescue. Soon, they realize their feelings for each other are growing, but there are still obstacles in their way for happiness. Rest assured, this romance has a perfect HEA ending!
JOSH by R.C.Ryan, Grand Central Publishing, Sept 2012, ISBN: 978-1-455-50243-1. Ms. Ryan is a new author to me, and I discovered that this book is the 2nd in a Series on the Conway Brothers (Wyoming Sky Series). Josh is one incredible hero. He's a sexy cowboy (yummy!), a rancher, a family man, and a man dedicated to helping others. He rescues lost, stranded hikers from the mountain. Heroine Sierra Moore is stranded on the mountain during a ferocious and dangerous winter storm and Josh dares the deadly elements to rescue her. Only, Sierra (who says she's a professional photographer) didn't exactly want to be rescued. She's got a deadly secret and keeping it from Josh and the Conway family is going to be harder than she expected. Not allowing herself to fall in love with Josh is going to be the hardest task of all. GREAT READ! I look forward to the next brother's story.
Paranormal Romance Author Kendra Leigh Castle's SHADOW RISING, Grand Central Publishing, July 2012, ISBN 978-1-455-51164-8, is from the Series "A Tale of the Dark Dynasties". Gotta love those sexy Cowboys! In Katie Lane's CATCH ME A COWBOY, Hatchett Books, April 2012, ISBN: 978-1-455-508150, we meet sexy Billy Wilkes. Billy has returned to Bramble with one intent: wipe if off the map. Revenge can be sweet. Or dangerous. Even deadly. Heroine Shirlene Dalton is an obstacle in Billy's way he didn't expect --and wants no part of the raging feelings she provokes in him. He's bent on one thing, and falling in love isn't in the plans. I loved the anguish of the characters in this story ---it made them very "real". And it's always great to know that despite all obstacles life can throw at you, LOVE TRIUMPHS OVER ALL. Don't miss this one!
MOONGLOW by Kristen Callahan (author of FIRELIGHT), Grand Central Publishing, July 2012, ISBN: 978-1-455-50858-7, is Book #2 in the "Darkest London" Series. A mixture of Regency, Scottish, and Paranormal, this romance is a page turner. Daisy Ellis Craigmore is now widowed and ready to live her life to its fullest. Only, Fate has something else planned. And once the danger breaks loose, only secretive Ian Ranulf, the Marquis of Northrup, can save her. But Ian has a deadly secret, a primal nature he can't allow to be exposed, and helping Daisy leads him down that path with no options. Secrets are revealed, love is confessed, and a HEA is guaranteed. I love Ms. Callahan's new series and eagerly wait for the next one!
In the Historical Romance genre is SEVEN NIGHTS IN A ROGUE'S BED by Anna Campbell, Grand Central Publishing, Sept. 2012, ISBN: 978-1-455-51207-2. This is the first book in a new Series called "Sons of Sin". Think "Beauty and the Beast" when you're reading this one. Jonas Merrick is a scarred recluse, a rogue in more ways than one, and a man who has learned the hard way to distrust the outside world. In order to save her sister, Sidonie Forsythe agrees to brave the frightening world of Castle Craven and put herself at the mercy of Jonas --who demands seven nights in his bed. These two characters are forced to face their fears, their secrets, to conquer the bitter legacies of their pasts, and to finally realize that love will see them safely through the journey of darkness to light. Although I don't read alot of Historicals, this book was a keeper. I'm looking for the next book in this series now! I loved the Gothic touch, the vividly portrayed emotions of the characters, the suspense of insurmountable barriers, the final Redemption. A Definite Recommend!
Another Historical Romance, is THE WARRIOR by Margaret Mallory, Grand Central Publishing, October 2012, ISBN: 978-0-446-58309-1. Book #3 in the Series "Return of the Highlanders", this is Duncan's story. The proud Scottish warrior had been forced to leave behind his one and only love, but had forged forward in his life to go into battle in hopes of proving his worthiness. Now, later, when his lost love Moira needs rescuing, Duncan will stop at nothing to help her. And hope he has a second chance to win her love. But Moira is just as proud, and she's vowed never to allow herself to suffer heartache again. She and Duncan will have a hard battle to win as they race from danger and secrets that threaten to destroy them both.
